2006 is almost over...

Hi everyone,

Long time no talk... things have been pretty full on here with all my family in town. Things sure have been full on but so much fun too!!!

We had Rachels christening today - all went well and we were lucky enough that the rain held off for most of the day so the kids were able to play outside at our place afterwards (and we do only have a small house with all of the above ppl there as well as Steph's family and a few friends). Rachel was well behaved and didn't even cry when the water was poured over her head - thats my girl! :) She only started crying at the end when all the photos were being taken - damn paparazi! LOL Will post a photo of her in her gown (that is at least 25 years old) once I get hold of one - none taken on our camera - but no doubt the bros will send them through once they are downloaded off their cameras.

I have had a few glasses of bubbly today and feel quite light headed and funny now... so Steph is looking after Rachel this evening! Think I may even head to bed soonish and let Steph settle her etc... and then I will do the night feed.

We are going to spend New Years with the family (of course) before they start heading back to their respective countries and homes so no doubt it will be rowdy but lots of fun! But bags not drinking! LOL We are spending the night there so neither of us have to drive home again.

2006 sure has been an eventful year for us starting off with the sad death of our very special friend Jude on my Mums birthday and her funeral on my birthday. Then getting pregnant the following month... so of course that led to the next 9mths being pregnant and reaching each milestone after the two miscarriages in 2005. Throughout the year there have been a number of blogger babies arrive and as much as I think I can name them all I would hate to leave any one out :) Then of course there was the arrival of Rachel Judith 8 weeks ago and boy has our life changed since then! LOL

May 2007 bring us all many joys and celebrations and may we all acheive what we set out to acheive. For me it will be returning to work and managing to be a mum at the same time and to start work on slowly getting rid of my excess weight that I am still carrying. I am still about 9 kilos heavier than I was pre pregnancy so need to get some of my good habits back again before I lose them totally! :) I am walking quite a bit though - would LOVE to get back to the gym but the $$$ just don't allow me to so might have to take Sue up on her offer of doing me a home programme :)

I doubt I will post again before heading to Mums tomorrow so I would like to wish you all and your loved ones a Happy and Safe New Year. Talk to you all next year :)

Bye for now...

Firstly - I do hope you all had a very merry Christmas with your family and friends. And that Santa bought you what you had wished/asked for :)

We had a lovely first Christmas as parents with Rachel being very spoilt indeed! My only regret from Christmas Day is that we didn't manage to get an "Offical" photo of the three of us celebrating christmas or even an "offical" photo of Rachel in her beautiful dress! And then when we had the offical family photos later in the day (all 29 of us), Rachel was fast asleep and having spent almost 2hrs to calm and settle one very over tired little girl there was no way I was going to wake her so she missed out on being in those photos too! :(

But apart from the photo situation - we had an awesome time spending two great days with my crazy family! It was a very noisey, overwhelming day for the kids but so much fun was had by all. We hit the road to mums about 8am and had a bbq bubbly breakfast there before heading to the house where one of my brothers was staying (as it was bigger than mums) for the present opening and lunch etc... Present opening was diablocial but so much fun and laughter was had by all! I loved opening all of Rachels presents and she sure got some great books and clothes and toys! I also enjoyed the bubbly, the bourbon and the baileys that I drunk throughout the day and night (not altogether)! :)

We had a very unsettled night with Rachel though depsite having her basinett with us etc she was waking every 2/3 hrs for a small feed and cuddles! And the house we were staying in was a 3 story house so I did keep fit going up and down to the kitchen etc...

Boxing Day started off as a very laid back, relaxed quiet day before we all met at Waikanae (at another brothers house that he was staying in) as the house there was only 100 meters from the beach. So a family game of cricket was held while I went for a lovely but very refreshing walk along the beach with Rachel in the pram. We were initially going to spend aother night up there but decided that it would be better for us all if Rachel had a good night in her own surroundings. She had a good sleep which of course meant we had a good sleep as well.

Today has been a very quiet one here with Rachel doing lots of sleeping and feeding (perhaps another growth spurt) which is great. Just a pity the weather isn't the best. We had our visit from Plunket and in the 12 days since the last visit Rachel has gained approx 1 1/2 pounds so is now weighing in at 11lb 5ozs! But just as I had undressed Rachel for the nurse to weigh her and had picked her up to put her on the scales she pee'd everywhere - all over me, her playmat, her clothes and the floor!!! LOL

Tomorrow, we are heading up to Mums to spend the day up there... Friday we are having another day at home with some friends visiting us. Then on Saturday we have Rachels christening so have a bit of baking/cooking to do for that and a house to tidy and fingers crossed it will be fine for the afternoon tea afterwards otherwise we will be all squashed in here like sardines! LOL Might spend New Years Eve up at Mums depending on other invites etc...

Anyway, best I stop rambling and get moving... hope you are all enjoying the break. Catch ya all later

Am still here...

Hi all

Yeap I am still here - just had rather a busy week and seem to run out of either time or energy to do a post so thought I would do a quick one while I had the time (i.e. Rachel is sleeping ) and the energy (i.e. can't be bothered doing the housework).

All Christmas cards have been done and posted... all Christmas presents have been bought, wrapped and are under the tree! Oh just got Stephs and mine joint present (the microwave) to get but thought we would wait until the New Year sales so we can get a better one at a cheaper price! :)

Am having a day at home today to give Rachel the chance to actually have a decent day sleep in her own bed rather than the carseat or pram! Might go for a walk later on but will see how we are going. Am waiting for the Midwife to ring me back as I have her present here for her but I am having difficulty in getting her to return my calls (she uses a pager system) and I think that is because she told me she doesn't want a gift and that seeing Rachel (and any of her babes) born and healthy is the best gift of all! Might have to end up dropping the present and card off to the hospital and leaving it at the delivery suite office so she can just get it next time she is there.

We are still having problems with Rachel in the evenings and last night we gave her the first dose of Infant Gaviscon which seemed to work wonders for her and gave us some peace and quiet for a while too. So between the Gaviscon, Gripe Water and the Naturopharm Spray Rachel seems to be doing well - we write down all the feeds she has and how much she takes (more for me and my lack of memory) so we just note beside the feed if we give her anything extra (ie spray) as obviously we can't give her everything each feed!! She is really loving her baths these days as well and is well and truely out of the baby bath and is in the big bath! Must admit I did prefer the baby bath (as it was part of the change table and at a good height) so might start actually having baths with her in the evenings and then Steph can dress her etc while I dry and get dressed myself.

Not too much else to say really - the family are almost all in NZ now. Baby brother is on the plane from Sydney as I type this and they get to Wgtn at 3pm. Then my sister comes down tomorrow some time... I REALLY want to head up to Mums tomorrow to see everyone prior to Monday but Steph doesn't seem to think we will have time but if I get off my butt and get some housework done today then we can do the groceries this afternoon when Steph gets home and whoaloa we can go to Mums tomorrow! LOL

So best I get moving and perhaps do the vacuming etc... and as this will probably be my last post before Christmas Day (but will post in between Christmas and New Year) I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my readers a very Merry Christmas and I hope you and your families have a wonderful day!

Ciao for now

7 more sleeps...

OMG - only 7 more sleeps until Santa comes and visits us all!! Wow where has the year gone??? 2006 has certainly been an eventful year for Steph and I but I will do a more philisophical post on that subject closer to the end of the year :)

Back to the weekend - what did we get up to?? Saturday we had Rachels 6 weeks jabs with the nurse. I had heard how painful it was for the mums to watch this but like childbirth you can't appreciate how hard it is until you go through it yourself! The look on her face when those needles went in to her legs - OMG I was in tears as well!!! Rachel hasn't had any major reaction to them - only being clingy and grizzly which we were able to deal with.

Sunday we headed to Mums for lunch and to catch up with my brother from Ireland and his kids. It has been 4 years since I had seen Phil but 6 years since I had seen the kids! They sure have grown and the girls just loved cooing over Rachel and were wanting to hold her etc! Though now Alex is 17 and Olivia is 11 - they were very confident in holding her etc... the only thing that they didn't want to do is change Rachels naps! LOL I wonder why??? LOL

The last 4 nights we have had 2 hours of crying/screaming - no set time as such but it just seems to be after she has had her evening bottle and just doesn't want to settle. Rachel is currently sleeping and due to wake shortly so fingers crossed this evening isn't another one of those nights. I guess the biggest challenge of being a mummy is the unpredicatableness of each day as I am generally a routine type of gal! LOL

Oh I managed to finish my christmas cards today while Steph fed Rachel so tomorrow I will get them posted off (and hand delivered for those local ones). Still got a few thank you cards to do though but I really wanted the Christmas ones out this week! Now I can start thinking of wrapping the pressies! :) Oh I finished our Christmas shopping last night - oh well more or less - just have a present to buy for Rachel to give her daddy! Since our budget is tight this year, Steph and I are just going to buy ourselves a new microwave as our combined Christmas present. Our current one was initially my parents, then my sister had it for a while, then my brother and now me so I have worked out it is approx 9 years old at least! And with using it so often these days for sterlising Rachel's bottles etc we decided we really do need a decent one and I have noticed when our current one is on 50% power that it is not working as well as it used to.

Oh tomorrow I have an interview with a local employment agency to get on their books so am dropping Rachel off to Steph's SIL and she will look after her for me :) The other two agencies have said they will contact me in the New Year to meet up and to register etc...

Anyway, time for me to keep moving and to fold the washing while Rachel is still sleeping... catch ya all later.

Hi all

Wow a whole week of great weather! Does this mean summer is really upon us this time??? Hasn't it been fantastic? I am just loving every day being able to have the lounge doors wide open and washing on the line and walking when I have the energy/time... Lets hope this continues :)

So what have we been up to the last couple of days? Not a lot really... Wednesday was a day at home (apart from a 45min trip to the supermarket). Rachel was pretty upset on Wednesday afternoon and Janene thanks for your tips - she does have her basinett raised at the head end and was ready to change formulas but am sticking with what we have now after talking to the Drs (more on that in a moment).

Yesterday, we had her Dr's appt for her 6 week check up and immunisation shots... so afer rushing to get the Drs on time (why the hell was I rushing I don't know) and ended up having a 40min wait before we got to see her (that was the longest wait I have ever had to see her). Gillian is really pleased with Rachel and her progress and reminded me not to listen to coffee group "comparisons" i.e. "J" is doing this and "C" is doing this etc... as every child is different and develops at their own pace! My mum reminded me that I didn't walk until I was 17mths old and didn't even talk properly until I was 5yrs old (and haven't stopped since LOL)! Anyway, we then went to the nurses room to get told that they had run out of one of the vacines so I could either let Rachel have two now and come back next week for the other one OR I could come back for them all next week which doesn't really suit us... so they have fitted us in tomorrow (Saturday) which is great as that means Steph will be able to be there too.

After the Dr's, we dropped a couple of pkts of nappies (that don't suit Rachels size) off to a friend of mine who is pregnant with her 2nd child and then just came home and blobbed. Rachel was brilliant initially but then when she woke at 6pm, she woke grizzly and just cried and cried and screamed and screamed some more! Steph did everything he could for her while I cooked tea and then ate mine... and then when Steph was eating his I thought right I would take her for a walk to calm her down but nope that didn't work either as she just cried and screamed the whole 35 odd mins I was out (and rolling my ankle while I was out certainly didn't help me)... but as soon as we got home and I got her out of the pram there was instant silence and sleep for a wee while before taking 60mls and then crashing for 6hrs!

Today, she has been absoutely brilliant - in fact too good if you ask me with the amount of sleeping she is doing... does the heat make them sleep more? Looks like I will have to wake her shortly as I am not letting her sleep for longer than 3hrs at a time during the day to try to encourage "short" sleeps during the day and "long" sleeps at night time - sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. Not everyone agrees with waking them but it is something that we are trialling to try to get her day vs night sorted.

We have also decided to get Rachel christened so I am trying to organise that for while all my famiy are here (probably the weekend between Christmas and New Year all going well). I have asked a great friend of mine and her partner to be godparents so am just waiting confirmation (once she has checked with him) of that :) And oh also waiting to hear back from the local priest - seems to be a hard man to track down! :) Can't see it being a small affair either not with 29 of my family there and then Steph's family and a few close friends! Fingers crossed it is a nice day so people can be outside as well otherwise it will be a TIGHT squeeze inside!

Anyway, best I get moving and organise a bottle for Rachel so I can slowly start to wake her up... might have a BBQ for tea tonight if we get the energy otherwise it may end up being takeaways.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and I will catch ya all later :)

Wednesday, December 13, 2006

Wow 3 nice days in a row! That must be some sort of miracle given the weather we have been having lately!!! Okay it was drizzling this morning but now the sun is shining and it is really quite warm! Just wish it would stay like this but I don't think it is supposed to with it turnin yucky again just in time for the weekend!

So whats been happening here... bugger all really! After Monday nights post of debating when to go to bed - I went to bed @ 9.3pm thinking that Rachel would wake about 11ish but I was so shocked when I looked at the clock when she woke me up to see it was in fact 2.45am!!!! OMG she slept for 7 hrs!!!!!! WOOOHOOO!!! And then to make that feed even better she was back down in bed just after 3.15am so only up for about 35mins! That is another great achievement for both of us! And then yesterday she was brilliant sleeping for long periods and being the "perfect angel"! Guess it was too good to be true and to last for to long... last night she was a bit of rat bag not wanting to settle and then only sleeping for 4hrs (which I guess for a 6wk old is not to bad). But this afternoon she has only gotten worse getting grizzly and not settling... so am glad I have the Drs in the morning so we can discuss the reflux issue (constipation not a problem anymore).

Right have now tried for the third time since 12pm to put her down to sleep so fingers crossed she stays asleep for at least an hour prefably two hours!

Not too much more happening really - still no christmas tree up or no christmas (and thank you) cards done... have got the cards out - just have to write them up now! And I think I have talked Steph into getting a "real" tree this year - have seen some great ones (that come with bucket and all) at Mitre 10 so I think we will get one of those but talk about major discussions on where the tree will go in our small lounge (either fake or real) but have finally sussed it out!

On Sunday, we have my brother from Ireland and his kids (who live in London with their mum) arriving so we are heading to Mums to spend the afternoon with them. Then on Monday my brother and nephew from Christchurch arrive... then on Friday my two brothers and their families from Melbourne and Sydney arrive... then Saturday my sister, her partner and his girls come over from Masterton... then Sunday my brother from Ireland partner arrives as does my brother from Christchurch partner and their daughter... so next week is pretty full on and all up on Christmas Day there will be 29 of us celebrating Christmas together! OMG just had a thought - if we all head to mass together - what a sight that will be! LOL This will be the first time since my first wedding in 1997 that all of us (including partners and children) will be together!!! The six of us were together not long before Dad passed away 4 years ago but majority of partners weren't able to make it then. Oh there will be one niece missing and that is my sisters youngest who is over in Ireland on her OE. I am so looking forward to Christmas and seeing everyone again but boy there are family arguements starting already and the boys aren't even in the damn country! Mum sent them an email telling them to sort their shit out before they come over or not to bother coming at all! That worked wonders! LOL

Oh I sent my CV off to a few employment agencies (shhhhhhhhh don't tell my boss) in the Hutt Valley today to see if there are any jobs going out this way to save me 2 hours commuting each day when I return to work! It would mean a decrease in pay but thats fine with me - we know how much I need to bring in for us to survive and to pay the bills! Would love to stick with Payroll but there aren't many payroll jobs in the Hutt Valley so will probably end up doing some admin/office work which suits me just fine. But on saying that I am not holding my breath on getting a job out here but unless you try you never know what is going...

Anyway, I might go lay down while Rachel is sleeping (for how long is the $64 millon question) and read my book...

Catch ya all later

Hi ya

Just thought I would do a quick update after our first visit to Plunket today... got a phonecall from them early this morning to see if I could see them today and as I was already going out to "Baby and Me" class I said I would pop in there on the way home. Rachel is doing really well and has gained 560gms in 10 days and is now weighing 4.480gms (9lbs 14oz) so plunket nurse was really happy with that. The nurse did a through check and is happy with everything :)

We have also made an appt with the Dr for Thursday morning to have Rachels 6 week check up (OMG she will be 6 weeks on Thursday!!!) and her immunisation shots so will also discuss the reflux issue with her then. Speaking of the reflux - she hasn't been to bad today (touch wood) and she's definitely not constipated today!!! LOL Have been trialling a Natropharm Digest-Med spray for the last 3 days and it seems ok at the moment though she certainly doesn't like the taste of it when I spray it in her mouth.

I have also bought a safety wedge for her today on advice of other mums who have reflux babies - as it keeps them on their side which makes them a lot more comfortable (if they are on their back the acid comes back up). So far she has been down for just over an hour which at this time of the night is brilliant for us! But now we have the decision to make of do I go to bed and hope that she sleeps till about midnight or knowing my luck will she wake up just as I have gone to sleep... OR do I wait up and wait up and wait up and she keeps on sleeping... LOL Oh I do hate these decisions one has to make at times! LOL

Anyway, enough blabbering from me - hope I haven't bored you all with this update... catch ya all later :)

Hi everyone

Firstly my apologies to anyone that may have been offended or upset by the photo of Rachel in the shower with her daddy... I certainly didn't think that it would offend people as it had been severely edited to show basically Rachel enjoying herself. I won't be sharing the next photo of her in the shower though as that was with me and believe me that ain't no pretty picture! LOL

So what have we been up to... not a lot really. Still dealing with Rachels reflux and constipation issues which are proving stressful and frustrating at times but with the help of an online support group and also a friend of mine in Dunedin who has two children who are reflux sufferers we are slowly learning more about it. I paged the MW yesterday afternoon but unfortunately it was her weekend off and her back up rung me back but wasn't that helpful so will wait till tomorrow when I will call Edith and have a chat to her to see if there is anything else that she can suggest for now. We will also be heading to the Drs later this week for Rachels 6 week immunisation shots so we will talk to the Dr as well if the MW can't suggest anything further.

Yesterday was a very frustrating day with Rachel not doing much sleeping at all during the day - just grizzling, crying, feeding and dosing off and on... She finally went down properly about 8pm when she slept through till 12.45am. Mangaged to stay in bed till 9.30am this morning with her sleeping in bed with us. Might look at doing that on the weekends to ensure we all get a wee sleep in.

Today hasn't been to bad and after a trip to Petone to the Warehouse and then a nice walk along Petone foreshore, we are home again for a quiet evening. Rachel is in her bouncer and watching me type away... and starting to get grizzly for a feed so best I get moving to organise a bottle for her.

Not a lot on this week at this stage - the last "Baby and You" class tomorrow and then the Osteopath on Tuesday and thats about it I think! Wow so quiet compared to last week. Might try to get the "thank you" and Christmas cards done. No Christmas tree up as yet - might ask Steph to get it down from the ceiling space in case I feel up to it (and get the time) during the week.

Okay gotta go now... catch ya all later - have a good week everyone

My first visit with Santa...

My first shower with my Daddy...

Have had another rough night and day but once we were out at Queensgate she slept nicely in her pram :) Just had one "wee" incident when we were all at a cafe and the babes were feeding when I felt something damp on my ankle... I looked down and Rachel had wet through her outfit, down my top and skirt and down my leg.... OOOPS! The pram was awfully good at covering me as I walked to the parents room! LOL Had a change of clothes for Rachel but not me! LOL

But anyway, might head to bed and see if I can get a couple of hours sleep before Rachel wakes up again but before I do that I must talk to Steph about which night feed he is going to do this weekend...

Ciao for now

Ahhhhh I'm so full now Mummy...

1 mth old and chilling out on my new huggies playmat...

Just relaxing in the pram after a nice walk...

Am feeling a bit better today after writing last nights post and thanks for your support! It means so much to both Steph and myself! After Rachel went down at 8.15pm, I went to bed and we both slept till 1.55am! Then back in bed within the hour and asleep again till 6am... so I am feeling a lot better in myself etc... Only thing is that I have my toothache back again so I really must ring the dentist but don't really have the spare $$$ at the moment especially at this time of the year.

Right off to coffee group shortly and Rachel is sleeping soundly in her bed... so best I get myself organised for when she wakes or if I have to wake her and put her in the carseat...

Ciao for now

Warning - Venting post follows...

Anonymous - if you haven't got the guts to leave your name or email address then I don't really care if you don't come back and read my blog again! This is MY blog - I will write about what I want to write about and at the moment my life is Rachel! The name of this blog is Karen's Journey - journey of life in my eyes as I see it and as I experience things! Rachel is only a month old so of course I am going to write about her as that is what my life revolves around at the moment!!! And obviously you are not a regular reader of my blog as I did comment a wee while ago that I knew I was talking about Rachel lots but I got all the support from my friends saying that it was ok with them as they know Rachel is number one in my life right now! And besides I have also been told many a time not to stress about weight at this early stage of motherhood and to relax, enjoy it and worry about my weight later on... I certainly am not going to let myself go to pieces so to speak - I will be watching what I am eating and for your info I have done 3 x 45min walks in the last 5 days! So once again, if you are not interested in reading my blog - then by all means fuck off and read something that does appeal to you! And Jen - you summed it up nicely - they are obviously a waste of space and have nothing better to do! Thanks for your support hun.

Anyway, onto more important things - Rachel! Yesterday, she was amazing - so beautiful - just sleeping, eating and smiling at her mummy! Then we had a rough patch from 1.15am till 3.30am when she was really upset with constipation! Finally got her down and she stayed down till just after 6.30am which was good. This morning she has been an angel sleeping and then staying asleep when I transfered her to her pram when I went walking with a friend from our coffee group.... got home, fed her and then she turned into demon child!!! Since 11.45am, she will be lucky if she has slept for 90mins all up! She has just cried, screamed and cried some more... and finally at 8.5pm she has just gone down - for how long is anyones guess but I won't be holding my breath! Though I must admit a lavender bath and then a shower with daddy really calmed her down. Oh during her crying, screaming sessions - I was crying and crying and crying as well!!! I went through a list of people I wanted to call but they were all either at work or at home with kids themselves and I didn't want to put anyone out and besides Steph was due home an hour later...

Oh I decided late yesterday not to go to the dietician appt today so rang and cancelled it... hey they never ever weighed me when I was seeing them during the pregnancy so how can they tell me how well I did etc??? The other bit of sad news is that Barbara from Positively Slim has decided to close the business and pursue another business in another direction. I know I wasn't able to afford to go back to her but I am still quite sad about it as it was nice knowing that I had her to go back to if I needed the support. She has two more weeks of weigh ins and then a wind up finger food lunch on the 21st Dec so will definitely make an effort to be there. So it looks like once I decide to start kicking butt again with this weight loss I will be relying on you guys for support which I know I will have when I need it!

Anyway, Rachel is still asleep - the longest she has stayed in her basinett all afternoon so its looking promising... so I am gonna hit the sack now despite it being 8.30pm... guess I will be up twice during the night then as she will probably want a feed before midnight as she has only been nibbling all afternoon and evening... and then she will want her next one a few hours later.

Night all - catch ya all later :)

Hi ya

Right while I have a few mins peace and quiet I thought I would do an update :) I do have some photos which I must download later on and share with you at some stage soon.

I am feeling rather good today as Rachel slept for 6.5hrs last night! I couldn't believe it when the clock read 4.15am! Though I had woken about 2.30am and thought "ahhhh she will be awake soon no point in going back to sleep" so I was laying there awake for about an hour before I finally must have fallen back to sleep! And then she was back down in bed and fast asleep by 5am which is great as well as she can often take a good hr before she is back in bed asleep. And then she slept through till just after 8am so I had enough time to shower, dress and have some breakfast before she woke up. Admittingly she had wet through her clothes and bedding when I got her up at 8am so she is now asleep in her bouncer while her basinett is aired :)

Yesterday, we had our "Baby and You" class and the venue was changed due to a funeral (usually held in a church lounge) and as it was now in Upper Hutt rather than Silverstream I decided that Rachel and I would walk there as she was being unsettled. Oooops the hall was further away than I had remembered... so had to walk rather briskly to get there on time but hey thats all good for me... the only thing is that I had to walk home again so was shattered when we got home! But at the class, we covered infant CPR and infant massage - we only covered leg massage in the class but the lady showed me how to do stomach massage to ease constipation and gas problems which was lovely of her and she has even said I can call her and she will visit me at home if I need help! So did some stomach massage on Rachel yesterday afternoon and things seemed ok last night.

Today, I have a friend Paula and her daughter visiting this afternoon so am really looking forward to that :) Tomorrow, I have my hospital appt with the dietician - still trying to decide if I will cancel that or not - better make up my mind pretty quickly I guess! Thursday is coffee group with the antenatal ladies - 4 of us have had our babes and there are 4 left to come... Friday I am meeting my friends Jo and Steff and their babes to get their photos taken with Santa so that will be a great outing and good chance to catch up! :) Then hopefully at the weekend we will put up the Christmas tree and decorations...

Not a lot more to report really.... so best I get moving and get some things done before Paula arrives :)

Ciao for now :)

Sunday evening already... where has the weekend gone? Ok weekends don't mean too much to me these days except for they are the two days that I have Steph home with me to help during the day... and I do love it when he is home with us :)

So what have we been upto over the weekend? Yesterday - we didn't do too much really as we had a real rough night on Friday night and I was shattered and Rachel was busy catching up on the sleep that she didn't have during the night! I have to admit that the reason Rachel was awake, crying and upset was due to her constipation and also her reflux! Was a rough few hours for me but we got through though at one stage both Rachel and I were in tears in the lounge! But it was the first real rough night we had had for a while so I can't really complain - not that I was complaining - just writing in my blog :) So back on track to yesterday, we did venture to the Baby Factory as they had their Parent Centre Discount day and although we didn't get what we really wanted - we did get a couple more bibs and a nappy bucket :) We also did a stop at the Warehouse as there was an awesome activity gym that I wanted to get for Rachel (from my brother and his family in Aussie) but they had sold out of that one so I got the second choice one :)

Last night was a bit better sleep wise and Steph was great and did the 5.45am feed :) But unfortunately she didn't settle for long and I was up to her about 7.30am. Decided that I may as well do it since I had a bit to do before heading to the Bloggers picnic. Rachel and I made it up to the Bloggers Picnic at Harcourt Park and it was great to catch up with Sue, Rachel, Helena (and Craig), Janene (and Jorja) and to meet Chris and Ang (and her friends - sorry can't recall their names). The weather was great for us - in fact it was actually quite hot! I only stayed for the first hour and Rachel slept the whole time much to everyones disappointment who wanted cuddles with her! Sorry gals - perhaps next time? :) Hope the rest of the afternoon went well.

Came home to finish tidying up and then Karen and Bryce turned up with lunch :) We had an awesome time catching up with them and talking baby talk as Karen is pregnant and offically due in 7 weeks but the specialist says he might bring her on early. Bryce was a laugh with some of the things he didn't realise babies did/needed! LOL Can't wait for them to have their wee one and to be able to visit them :)

Once they left, I had a snooze for an hour and then we have just blobbed out doing sweet bugger all. Rachel has just been fed and Steph is trying to settle her down for hopefully a few hours sleep and once she goes down I will head to bed myself I think!

Got a pretty full on week, with something on every day! Am really looking forward to Tuesday when Rachel and I are having visitors for the afternoon - a lovely lady called Paula who reads my blog and lives "locally". Her and her daughter are coming to visit and I am so looking forward to meeting her as we have been emailing each other for a while and we both feel like we know each other so well already! :)

I am supposed to be seeing the dietician at the Hospital on Wednesday morning but I think I will cancel that appt as I can't really see the point of it since she never weighed me during my pregnancy visits and I know what I am supposed to be eating and walking etc... so there is nothing new that she can really tell me.

I am meeting up with my friends Jo (and Maddie) and Steff (and Liam and Jade) one day this week at Queensgate so our darlings can have their photos taken with Santa! :) So am really looking forward to that...

Anyway, enough rambling from me - hope you all have a great week. Catch ya later

Hi all

Well compared to yesterday when Rachel did more or less nothing but sleep all day - today is the total opposite! She was up from 7.15am (after being up at 3.15am) until 12.30pm! Okay she did have a couple of "power naps" of 15mins but the rest of the time she was quite contented and happy just to lay on her playmat and "blob" out.

The MW has been and Rachel has had a nice gain of 480gms over 12 days so am really happy with that! She also has been diagonised with a bit of silent reflux... so just gotta try feeding her in a upright position and wind her frequently to see if that helps things. It was also my last visit with her and I was crying when she left as I so don't want her to go! And what made it worse was that I didn't realise it was my last visit so I hadn't got her gift basket organised so told her that I was in the middle of making one up for her and she just said that seeing Rachel grow so well was enough of a present for her but if I really wanted to give her something just to page her and she will drop in for a cuppa to collect it So best I get my A into G and get it made up!

Toothace seems to have gone away today which is great but back is playing up a bit - gees I feel like I am falling apart at times! Must get some prices for some Osteo treatment for myself (will probably go to a different one to the one that we take Rachel as she is quite dear).

I was thinking of going out this afternoon but since Rachel has finally gone down to sleep I will just leave her and play it by ear and see when she wakes up... but hey the shops will still be there tomorrow or even next week!

Not up to too much over the weekend... will be nice having Steph here thats for sure :) Might suggest that he can do one of the morning feeds so I can have a lay-in but will see how we go. Sunday we have the bloggers picnic at Harcourt Park in Upper Hutt which I had totally forgotten all about until I read Janene's journal a couple of days ago and I have double booked myself! :( So have emailed Sue and said that Rachel and I will come to the picnic for an hour at the beginning but as we have friends coming for lunch at 12.30pm I will need to be home by then... That is the 2nd time since Rachel was born that I have double booked myself so sat down last night and wrote everything up on the calendar for December so hopefully it won't happen again!

Right, I am going to go have a lay down while Rachel is sleeping... have a good weekend everyone and for the Wellington Bloggers - looking forward to seeing you on Sunday albiet rather briefly!

Ciao
